Day 3 - Travelin

Kris and I hit the road to begin our travels from Galway to Donegal (North West Ireland). About 10 minutes into the trip our GPS died and we discovered that the lighter plug had no power and the GSP had been running off of residual battery power. Ugh what do we do? We bought a MAP, that is right.....No Google, no Mapquest but a old fashion, purchase in the "Petro" station, PAPER map. It actually worked out quite nice.

Kris's driving skills have improved very rapidly and he is now a pro-driver in Ireland. SO much so that I have not driven since my three minutes of hell in the Burren. But at least the major roads are wider and the stone walls in this part of the country are not as abundant as in County Clare. For our drive up, Kris had planned a route to Donegal that was longer, AKA the scenic route. He took us up a loop in Clifden called SkyRoad. Little hairy driving up a mountain in a one lane road (which was actually a two lane road) but some of the views were breath taking.....check them out.

And because I can......here's another castle.

Now our first two days in Ireland we had seen plenty of cows, bulls, and horses but no sheep or goats. That all changed when we entered County Sligo:

We drove past Benbulben (big mountain below). Everything in this area was named after WB Yeats. I am sure some of my readers who are schooled in literary greatness know who he was, myself.....I had to google him.

We finally arrived safe and sound in Donegal. We walked to a local pub and enjoyed some live Irish music and people watching. Till tomorrow.......

P.S.
Lessons I have learned:
Flashing headlights in Ireland are the same as home.....police (guarda) speed trap ahead
Chicken tenders or fingers are called Goujons here

P.S.S.
Club Orange is WAY better than Fanta.
